Ravish yourself, as many did before, by the beauty of the Leie river and its surroundings. Its sinuous course slides through pictoresque villages such as Afsnee, Sint-Martens-Latem, Baarle, Sint-Martens-Leerne, Bachte-Maria-Leerne, Deurle en Astene and many artists have been inspired by it to creating some exceptional artwork. Many artists found residence there and even art movements were named after the villages where the artists resided. One of them is the "Latemse school" of which Karel van de Woestijne, Emile Claus and George Minne were part of.

Some curiosities are worth the excursion, like the Broeltorens, the OLV-kerk, and the beguinage.
